The mission of the Archives/Library at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor is to collect, preserve, and facilitate the use of records documenting the history of northeastern Ohio and the upper Ohio River Valley as well as the lives of those who lived and worked in the region. The research collection of the Youngstown Historical Center is administered by, and complements the holdings of, the Archives/Library Division of the Ohio Historical Society. The collecting policies and procedures of the Youngstown Center are in accord with the collections policy of the Ohio Historical Society as established by its Board of Trustees. The specific collecting categories which are described below are to be considered an addendum to the collections policy statement of the Archives/Library Division.

Collecting categories

1. Ohio local government records of permanent legal or historical value from the counties with the Youngstown Center's region of responsibility through the Ohio Network of American History Research Centers.

2. Manuscripts and institutional records which relate to the industrial. Labor, urban, and ethnic environments of northeastern Ohio and the upper Ohio River Valley.

3. Oral history interviews conducted with individuals who lived and worked in the region, or whose lives were affected by events in northeastern Ohio and the upper Ohio River Valley.

4. Visual and audio materials, especially photographs, films, and video recordings, pertaining to the people and industries of the region.

5. Published and printed materials which support the programs and the collections held by the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor and provide the requisite documentation for researchers and the Historical Center staff.
