The Ohio Historical Society counts among its holdings almost 6500 collections of photographs ranging in size from one item to thousands and including daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, paper photographs, transparencies, and negatives; over 150 film and video collections containing more than 2000 reels of film and video cassettes combined; more than 1500 audio tapes, cylinders, and disks making up over 400 audio collections; and an extensive number of engineering drawings and cartoon, print, and ephemera collections all dealing with Ohioans and their lives both in and out of the state. In addition to the extensive audiovisual holdings of Ohio's social, geographic, political, and economic history, the historical society also has a number of photographs relating to the pre-history of the area that is now the state of Ohio.
OHS acquired the archives of Joe Munroe, a photojournalist, film maker, and environmental activist, and is pleased to provide a selection for viewing online.
The Audiovisual Section also administers the audiovisual and graphic reproduction services for the society. Nearly all the materials held by the Ohio Historical Society are available to be reproduced for research and/or publication within the parameters of the Copyright Law and for a modest fee.
