Courage in the Skies: The Story of the Tuskegee Airmen
Ohio Historical Center, COLUMBUS
7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Norman Rockwell kept America aware of World War II through his illustrations published by The Saturday Evening Post. Yet, none depicted the African Americans who were serving in the armed forces. Before 1940, African Americans were barred from serving as U.S. military pilots. Pressure from civil rights groups and the Black press resulted in the formation of an all African-American pursuit squadron based in Tuskegee, Ala., in 1941. Hear a young airman from this famous squadron tell the story of pilots who overcame segregation and prejudice to become one of the most highly respected fighter groups of World War II and pave the way for full integration of the U.S. military. Echoes in Time Theatre presents 30-minute, solo performances exploring characters from America's past. Admission: $8/adult, $7/senior, $4/child (ages 6-12) and FREE/OHS members and children 5 years old and under. Parking is $4 and FREE for members. |
