Fostoria Community Band performs at the Hayes Presidential Center
(FREMONT, Ohio, June 20, 2008) – The Hayes Presidential Center welcomes the Fostoria Community Band for the second performance of its 2008 Verandah Concert series on Wednesday, June 25. The free outdoor concert is made possible through sponsorship from the Fremont Federal Credit Union.
The Fostoria Community Band was organized in 1995 through the efforts of local percussionist Jerry Matz. Members hail from Fostoria and the surrounding communities. Some formerly performed in the old Fostoria VFW Band and Ernie Duffield’s Dance Band. The Fostoria Community Band’s first concert was in June 1995. Until 2007, it performed at three events per year. This year, the band is stretching its wings with additional concerts in Tiffin, Arcadia, and at the Hayes Presidential Center. The band’s repertoire includes classical and seasonal music, show tunes, marches, swing, and folk tunes. Conductor is Jarrod Koskoski.
Prior to the concert, Verandah Concert attendees can enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream social, with serving starting at 6:45 p.m. Musical entertainment begins at 7 p.m. and lasts about an hour. The 80-foot long verandah (19th-century term for a porch) on the home of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes serves as the stage for performers.
Those planning to attend the Verandah Concert should bring their own chairs or blankets and can choose a favorite spot on the expansive and shady lawn in front of the Hayes Home. Bug spray and sunscreen also are recommended. In the event of thunderstorms, the concert will be canceled.
For more information or to check on the status of the concert please call 419-332-2081 or visit the Hayes Presidential Center’s website at www.rbhayes.org.
The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues, Fremont, Ohio. The facility is affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society.
