Buckeye Council for History Education Hosts History Education Conference July 24-25 at Ohio Historical Center
(COLUMBUS, Ohio, June 10, 2008) - The Buckeye Council for History Education will hold its annual conference at the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus July 24-25 with more than 40 teachers expected to attend. Keynote speakers will be James H. Bissland, author of Blood, Tears, and Glory: How Ohioans Won the Civil War and historian Beth Boland of the Heritage Education Series from the National Park Service.
The council will sponsor a free teacher open house July 24 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Resources for Social Studies teachers and short presentations about history-related programming will be available. Teachers and their families will also get free admission and parking to the museum and its feature exhibition Capture the Moment: The Pulitzer Prize Photographs.
The following day, conference registrants can choose among concurrent sessions that examine contemporary scholarship, discuss how top educators in the state are teaching history and offer practical ideas for constructing standards-aligned history lessons. This year’s conference theme, "The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies," reflects the theme for National History Day in 2009.
The Buckeye Council for History Education, Ohio's affiliate of the National Council for History Education, supports quality history education and encourages communication between those who teach history in the schools and those who promote history in the community and academia.
