Government Grants Coordinator
Summary:
Works with senior managers and various staff to increase funding for the Ohio Historical Society and its operating units from federal, state and local government & quasi-governmental sources. Works strategically to identify potential funding sources and takes the lead in coordinating grant opportunities with available resources and timeframe. Reports to the Director of Government Relations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with the Director of Government Relations and selected staff in the development, implementation and evaluation of grants and gifts.
- Lead coordinator for Ohio Historical Society staff members regarding grants oversight to include monitoring and evaluating financial processes and expenditures of government grant funds, fulfilling grant reporting requirements and coordinating both pre and post award.
- Develops department and organization grants procedures and processes; may provide grant-related training to OHS staff and affiliate organizations.
- Works with the Director of Government Relations to develop and submit federal appropriations requests.
- Initiates, coordinates, writes or edits and submits proposals for Ohio Historical Society projects and programs.
- Identifies potential fundraising opportunities through community relations and outreach.
- Assists with non-governmental proposals, manages and assists with special projects and fundraising efforts.
- Works with all divisions and organization leadership to set annual organizational priorities for grants. Assists with development goal setting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May supervise volunteers and interns.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in business, liberal arts, or some other related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Master's degree preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years applicable work experience required.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences in person, on the telephone, and in writing.
Mathematical Skills:
Requires strong mathematical skills, especially relating to budget development, management and non-profit finance.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft office products. Knowledge of Raiser's Edge desired.
Reasoning Ability:
Analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary. Accuracy and attention to detail are important. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment, to work without continuous supervision, and to work cooperatively with internal and external groups and individuals.
Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged sitting, frequent standing, bending, stooping and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other office equipment as needed. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and to work irregular hours.
Work Environment:
Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work. Travel required.
